Understanding transfer credit articulation
Advisors frequently encounter students with undistributed credit or transfer credit that need to be evaluated. The resources below explain the processes and policies involved and give access to the tools needed.
Important note on block transfer credit and transfer grade policies
At IU Indianapolis, we have transfer credit rules that will only allow for transfer credits of grades of C or higher to be transferred into IU Indianapolis. However, we have two programs that require us to bring in courses that are grades of C–, D+, D, and D– if completed.
- Statewide Transfer General Education Core (STGEC), or now known as Indiana College Core (ICC), expects that the 30 credit hours associated with the core will all transfer into the transferring intuition; this includes grades of C–, D+, D, and D–.
- Transfer Single Articulate Pathways (TSAP) also expect that the block of courses will transfer into the institution, including grades of C–, D+, D, and D–.
The IU Indianapolis Office of Undergraduate Admissions is not aware of which credit hours are used for the core and will need the assistance of the advising community to let us know when we need to alter a student transfer record.
- If a course with a grade of C–, D+, D, and D– should transfer in to complete the core, please contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions by going to Transfer Answers and indicating that you need a re-review completed.
- When submitting the request, please clearly indicate which course needs to be re-evaluated to include a grade of C–, D+, D, and D– (e.g., ENG 111 is a grade of C– and will need to be transferred as it is a part of the core).
